Varicose veins and spider veins can be a source of concern for patients in Florida. Our patients are used to having their skin exposed with swimsuits, shorts, and skirts, and veins on the legs may have a negative impact on both aesthetics and self-confidence. Rendon Center for Dermatology and Aesthetic Medicine can help patients with varicose and spider veins by providing procedures such as sclerotherapy.
Sclerotherapy is a medical procedure that is often performed for eliminating troublesome veins on the legs. This procedure has been done for many decades, with studies showing its use back to the 1930s. The treatment involves the use of a solution that is injected directly into the vein of concern. This sclerosing solution will close the vein and allow it to be absorbed into the body harmlessly. Blood that used to flow through this vein will be redirected to other healthier veins and patients will not have to worry about any physical issues resulting from treatment.
Most patients are proper candidates for the procedure. However, there are certain indications, which, if present, may disqualify someone from having the treatment done. This includes patients who are pregnant, have had blood clot issues in the past, and those who may need future heart bypass surgeries. During the initial consultation, our team will go over a patient’s medical history to ensure he or she is a candidate for having sclerotherapy performed. Patients who are not proper candidates may be better suited for laser sclerotherapy treatment or even surgery, depending on the severity of their condition and the reasons for disqualification as an appropriate candidate.
At the Rendon Center for Dermatology and Aesthetic Medicine, we welcome patients who are interested in rejuvenating their appearance and addressing unwanted vein issues such as spider veins and varicose veins.
