Our HALO Laser Therapy Process

For fractional skin rejuvenation, the HALO 2940nm wavelength creates hundreds of microscopic channels through the epidermis, down into the skin’s second layer, the dermis. Once the body senses heat in the dermis, it assumes there has been a wound. It initiates a healing response, which is to produce new collagen in the area to “heal” the perceived injury. In reality, the hundreds of microscopic punctures heal in just a couple of hours; that’s the beauty of the “fractional” approach, where only a fraction of the skin surface is affected. Since collagen provides the skin’s underlying structure, new collagen helps firm and rejuvenate the skin. This improves the quality of the skin from within.

The 1470nm laser targets the surface skin, the epidermis. Here, the laser energy is absorbed by the melanin in age spots, rosacea, areas of hyperpigmentation, and vascular lesions. The energy breaks up the melanin in the pigmented spots and they slough off over the next couple of weeks. For vascular lesions, the blood absorbs the laser energy, and this causes the vein wall to collapse, closing off the lesion. It fully vanishes as the body absorbs it over the next couple of weeks.

FAQs About HALO Laser Treatment

This hybrid fractional laser is the first of its kind, providing both ablative and non-ablative laser energy. Ablative lasers work by vaporizing the surface layer of skin cells, revealing fresh new cells beneath. Non-ablative lasers heat the dermis, which is the layer of tissue below the epidermis. The heat causes the skin to produce new collagen. Ablative laser treatment tends to be more intense and invasive than non-ablative, and provides dramatic rejuvenation results. Ablative laser treatment also tends to have a longer recovery. One of the great things about HALO is that it provides both ablative and non-ablative wavelengths, but with a faster, easier recovery.

Many skin concerns are reduced or eliminated by this treatment:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Sun damage
  • Brown spots
  • Large pores
  • Areas of pigmentation
  • Rough texture
  • Dull skin appearance
  • Acne scars
  • Uneven skin tone

It is very common to experience these skin issues. Trying to conceal them adequately with makeup can be exhausting. Imagine instead waking up with clear, smooth, radiant skin, without any makeup at all!

About 30-60 minutes before your session, we apply a topical anesthetic to your skin. Then we digitally “map” your face with HALO’s motion-tracking technology. This ensures that all of your skin receives equal laser energy. The HALO handpiece is then rolled over each section of your facial skin until all areas have been covered, which is verified by the motion-tracking sensor. The procedure is not painful, with patients equating it to a slight prickling sensation. The topical anesthetic combined with HALO’s integrated cooling technology keeps you comfortable. After your treatment, your skin continues to feel warm for 15-30 minutes, or somewhat longer with deeper treatment levels.

Because of its dual laser wavelengths, HALO provides complete skin rejuvenation. You will see a significant removal of age spots, areas of uneven pigmentation, and other sun damage. The overall tone and texture will improve. You’ll also see a reduction in fine lines, reduced pore size, and an overall improvement in your skin’s vibrancy.

You’ll see your results beginning in just 2-5 days. Initially, most of your sunspots will darken. This is the response from the melanin in the spot. It will break up and the surface skin will shed over the next week or so. The wound healing mechanism of increased collagen and elastin production will ramp up in about 1 week and this will continue for a few months.

Yes, you can reduce or eliminate many of the signs of sun damage with HALO. Brown spots, wrinkles, and hyperpigmentation are just a few of the skin problems associated with skin damage, which will be addressed with HALO.

HALO results are long-lasting, even more so when you protect those results:

  • Wear sunscreen
  • Hydrate
  • Adopt a skincare routine
  • Moisturize
  • Eat well

It is really important to protect your skin from sun exposure. Sun damage not only causes cosmetic issues, but also increases your risk for developing skin cancer. Wearing sunblock will prevent future damage and preserve your results.

Yes, HALO is safe for all skin types. Because the device offers hybrid fractional technology, the laser treats the skin evenly. With other types of laser resurfacing, darker skin colors can be negatively affected. The laser sometimes causes uneven pigmentation or splotches of color. The hybrid fractional laser HALO, however, avoids this problem, so it is great for all skin types. During your consult at the Rendon Center, we will examine your skin, talk to you about what you would like to achieve, and make sure that HALO is the best treatment for your goals.

Once your Halo laser treatment is completed, you will have to take at least one to two days off to recover. You might have a mild redness, which is equivalent to a light sunburn. This is a normal side effect that will become a little more intense over time. It is usually around the third day of recovery where the side effects are the most intense. The severity and how long it lasts depends how extensive the treatment was.

Just like with other cosmetic procedures, you will need to schedule a consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon to determine whether or not you are a suitable candidate.

Here is a list of requirements that can make you a candidate for Halo laser treatment:

  • You are not happy with having early signs of aging.
  • Your skin texture feels rough and coarse.
  • You have realistic expectations regarding the procedure.
  • You are in good health.
  • Your skin is discolored.
  • You have sun damage.
  • Your skin tone is uneven.
  • You have wrinkles and fine lines.
  • You have enlarged pores.

If you have any persistent acne, open sores or wounds, or take acne medications, you may not be eligible for Halo laser treatment.

The results from Sciton Halo laser treatment are long-lasting as they can last for many years. However, these results are not permanent as the results will gradually fade as you get older or sustain sun damage. You must be proactive in safeguarding your new skin from the sun’s UV rays. This is accomplished by routinely applying sunblock with a high SPF.
