What is Restylane?

Restylane® is a brand of hyaluronic acid dermal fillers, the first of which was approved by the FDA in 2003. Made by Galderma, various Restylane products are designed to quickly correct some of the most common signs of aging. The hyaluronic acid base of each of these fillers helps provide fullness and elasticity by working synergistically with elastin and collagen. Hyaluronic acid binds to water molecules to lubricate different parts of the body, including the eyes and the skin. In the skin, hyaluronic acid particles moisten and plump tissue. In the form of Restylane dermal fillers, hyaluronic acid is used to target specific areas that have diminished due to aging or that could use a boost of natural-looking volume. This helps in reducing their appearance and restoring youthfulness without plastic surgery. This is a wonderful treatment for patients who are showing the early signs of aging and want to address areas such as crow’s feet and nasolabial folds.

What Are The Benefits of Restylane?

Dermal fillers are a wonderful solution to early signs of aging and can help in reducing the way fine lines and wrinkles develop over time. Patients should speak with a dermatologist about the many anti-aging solutions available, which are easy, affordable, and non-invasive alternatives to cosmetic surgeries that may require extensive healing and recovery time, and can subject individuals to many health risks.

There are several benefits of Restylane dermal fillers:

  • Restylane is completely safe and is approved by the FDA for cosmetic use
  • Restylane provides up to one year of results
  • Restylane can offer improvement in just one single treatment
  • Restylane is natural and does not affect one’s facial expressions
  • Restylane has been used since 1996 worldwide

Am I a Good Candidate For Restylane?

Fine lines, wrinkles, and jowls are natural effects of the aging process. That said, they aren't usually welcome changes. Many adults want to counteract these biological changes. Most can do so with the right Restylane product. Dermal fillers provide a nice complement or alternative to plastic surgery for many people. Appointments take an hour or less, there is no downtime, and the results of one treatment can last up to 18 months. Candidates for Restylane treatment are adults who want to achieve specific goals. This may be to increase the fullness and definition of the lips. It may be to enhance the curvature of the cheeks. It may be to reduce lines and creases that make the face appear older. Restylane products are also used to disguise the appearance of jowls, undereye bags, and dark circles. While dermal fillers are not suitable for some patients, such as women who are pregnant or breastfeeding and people with bleeding disorders, most adults who are interested in the non-surgical, minimally-invasive procedure are fine candidates.

If you would like to return to a younger-looking version of yourself without undergoing plastic surgery, it would be wise to consult with an experienced physician about dermal filler treatment. We would love to talk with you and get to know your cosmetic concerns and goals.

How is Restylane Different From Other Dermal Fillers?

Restylane products are made of hyaluronic acid. The characteristics of each Restylane filler differ slightly from others in terms of consistency and density. For example, one Restylane filler may have a softer, more fluid consistency that is made to fill fine lines around the mouth. Another may have a denser consistency so that it can add structure to areas like the jawline or cheeks. Today, most dermal filler brands have multiple products to choose from. Some Restylane products are made using NASHA technology, which specifies the HA particle size for each product.  Some are made with XpresHAn Technology which provides the flexibility that is needed to show each patient's natural range of facial expressions.

Restylane is similar to many other facial fillers, as it is used for immediate results. We administer Restylane with a very fine needle that is directed with precision into the appropriate areas for the best results. When done by a professional at the Rendon Center for Dermatology and Aesthetic Medicine, Boca Raton patients will enjoy natural, beautiful, effective results.

How Long Will a Restylane Treatment Take?

Restylane is an advantageous treatment because it is comfortable, effective, and convenient. Appointments usually take an hour or less, including our brief consultation before we begin treatment. Even if you've had dermal fillers before, expect your provider to check in with you regarding your satisfaction with your previous results and your expected outcome from subsequent treatments. Our goal is to achieve the results that you envision for yourself. This begins with a thoughtful conversation and examination of the treatment area. Once we are fully informed of the desired outcome and you are fully informed regarding our anticipated results from your treatment, injections take just a few minutes.  After your appointment, you can go about your day as usual.

How Many Restylane Treatments Will I Need?

Your Restylane treatment will immediately improve the area of concern. Lines and creases are quickly softened or eliminated by plumping the deeper layers of the skin with hyaluronic acid. The cheeks can look fuller and higher, the jawline more sculpted, all with a single treatment. The results of Restylane can last 12 to 18 months or longer. If, after your initial appointment, you would like to develop more contour or fullness in the treatment area, you can arrange a touch-up with your provider.

Are There Any Side Effects Associated with Restylane?

The most common side effects associated with Restylane injections include minor swelling, redness, and bruising. These typically last only a few hours but can linger for as long as a few days. Rarely are these side effects significant enough to require a patient to alter their normal daily routine. Most patients who receive Restylane injections immediately return to most of their normal activities. The provider may advise against exposure to sun or excessive heat following Restylane injections. These exposures may exacerbate redness and swelling. Patients may also be advised to avoid aspirin, alcohol, and other products that thin the blood for at least 24 hours before and after their treatment. Doing so can reduce the risk of more significant side effects.

Are Restylane Treatments Reversible?

Yes! As a hyaluronic acid dermal filler, Restylane can be reversed. To reverse the effects of this soft tissue filler, the provider would inject an enzyme called hyaluronidase into the treatment area. The enzyme works to break down the hyaluronic acid more quickly than would occur naturally. Hyaluronidase begins to work immediately. Patients typically see a reduction in the fullness of the target area within a few hours and, within 24 hours, the area may be completely back to normal.
