Am I A Good Candidate For Sculptra?

The effects of aging, gravity, and sun exposure can add years to your face. Dermal fillers, like Sculptra, can help erase those years and restore a smoother and more youthful appearance.

What Is Sculptra?

Sculptra is an injectable hyaluronic acid filler that’s made of poly-L-lactic acid, which is a synthetic form of lactic acid. Poly-L-lactic is also an ingredient used in soft tissue implants and dissolving stitches. This dermal filler treatment is safe and FDA-approved.

What Is Sculptra Used For?

Sculptra can be used to improve the appearance of:

  • Sunken cheeks and temples
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Slack chin
  • Loose jawline skin
  • Chest wrinkles and folds

How Does Sculptra Work?

The poly-L-lactic acid contained in the dermal filler can help stimulate collagen production, even for several months after it’s injected. Collagen production adds volume and tightens skin.

The difference between Sculptra and other dermal fillers is that this stimulates your own collagen, allowing your tissue to gain volume gradually. Other dermal fillers plump up areas more quickly, because they fill in the treated area for immediate volume results. It’s worth waiting for Sculptra to help your body produce its own collagen because the results can last up to two years.

Who Makes a Good Candidate?

  • You’re likely a good candidate if you want to restore volume to hollow areas of your face that you’ve developed due to aging or weight loss.
  • You’d like a semi-permanent filler that gives natural, long-lasting results by helping your body produce its own collagen to fill in lines and wrinkles that gives a natural, more youthful-looking appearance to the face and/or chest.
  • Men and women from 25 to 75 years of age have experienced success from these treatments.

Who Does Not Make a Good Candidate for Sculptra?

  • Sculptra is not for you if you want to see instant results.
  • People who have autoimmune problems should not consider this. Autoimmune problems include those who have multiple sclerosis (MS), lupus, rheumatoid arthritis (RA), and vasculitis. There are other autoimmune disorders that would preclude you from having treatments, so be sure to tell your dermatologist about any conditions you have during your initial consultation.
  • If you’re pregnant or breastfeeding, you’re not a good candidate.
  • If you’re younger than 18, it’s better to wait until you’re older before considering this.
  • If you have any skin issues such as outbreaks, rashes or redness, it’s better to wait until those conditions subside before considering Sculptra.
  • If you’re prone to keloids (overgrown scars) or hypertrophic scarring (mild overgrown scars), this may not be right for you. In both cases, the body overproduces collagen at the healing site. Since it helps produce collagen, an excessive amount of collagen may not be beneficial.
  • If you’re taking any of the following regularly: aspirin, blood thinners, or anti-inflammatory drugs, it’s important to discuss it with your dermatologist to make sure your body will be compatible with Sculptra.

Is Sculptra Safe?

Yes, it is safe and effective when it’s injected in the right candidate in well-suited locations by a skilled, board-certified dermatologist or plastic surgeon. Sculptra should always be administered by a doctor who’s been specifically trained on its use.
