Statistics indicate that the rate of increase in facelift surgeries has slowed significantly in recent years. One of the primary reasons for this may be that there are now numerous nonsurgical treatments that can be performed to correct mild to moderate signs of aging. The Silhouette InstaLift is one of several that we are proud to offer to our Boca Raton patients. Call 561-750-0544 today to schedule your consultation with our dermatology team!
What is Silhouette Instalift?
Some call the Silhouette InstaLift a lunchtime facelift. This minimally invasive procedure gained FDA approval in 2015 and has been refreshing faces across the country ever since. An InstaLift uses absorbable sutures to both lift and regenerate tissue for a younger-looking face.
Is InstaLift the same as Thread Lift?
The Silhouette InstaLift resembles a thread lift but has notable new technology that elevates its capabilities. Basic thread lifts that were performed up until 2009 inserted permanent barbed sutures. In theory, barbed sutures seemed beneficial.
However, in practical use, these filaments demonstrated relatively poor holding power. They also carried a risk of failing because the barbs were made from cuts into the suture material itself, thereby weakening each thread. The InstaLift inserts PLGA threads (absorbable glycolide and L-lactide) that are made with bi-directional cones. No cuts in the threads, so very little risk of “snapping” and very high holding power.
Who is a good candidate for Silhouette InstaLift?
Ideal candidates for this lunchtime lift are generally healthy men and women who are interested in a nonsurgical, moderate lift of the mid-face area. Mild to moderate tissue sagging in healthy skin typically responds well to the InstaLift.
What happens during treatment?
InstaLift treatment can be scheduled after a consultation in our comfortable office. Approximately 90 minutes is allotted for the procedure. To begin, we mark the points where sutures will enter and exit the skin. Numbing medication is administered and given time to take effect. This may take about half an hour. Once the tissue is numb, the InstaLift needle threads the coned suture material through the skin at a depth of approximately 5mm. The needle is guided through the tissue up to the marked exit point and brought through the skin. The length of the thread remains in superficial tissue.
This process is repeated for each suture that is placed. Once all sutures have been inserted, light pressure is used to anchor the threads and cones, as well as the skin, in a lifted position. In its entirety, the Silhouette InstaLift takes about 45 minutes.
How long does the Silhouette InstaLift last?
The results of InstaLift treatment can last from one to three years. On average, patients enjoy noticeable rejuvenation for about 18 months.
Are there different types of Silhouette InstaLift?
There are different types of thread lifts performed today, but only one Silhouette InstaLift. Other lifts may use barbed or smooth sutures made of dissolvable material. Currently, the InstaLift is the only thread procedure that features bi-directional cones.
What can I expect after my InstaLift procedure?
It is common to experience minor pain, bruising, and swelling after the Silhouette InstaLift procedure. These mild side effects typically subside quickly. The lifting that is achieved with treatment is immediately noticeable. Rejuvenating effects also continue to improve, maximizing about six months after the procedure. This is because the threads that are inserted also stimulate the production of Type I and Type II collagen.
What parts of the body can an InstaLift help with?
Silhouette InstaLift treatment is approved for the temporary suspension of the mid-face. By lifting the cheek area, the InstaLift can also lessen the severity of jowls at the jawline.
What makes the Silhouette InstaLift so effective?
The threads that are involved in the Silhouette InstaLift are what make this treatment so effective. Not only are the cones bidirectional, meaning that they face in opposite directions, but they are also spaced evenly apart at approximately 2cm.
Between each cone is a knot that is tightened just before the sutures are placed. Unlike barbs or smooth threads, the cones on the InstaLift threads are capable of securing more tissue in place, thus achieving more noticeable lifting.
Are there any risks or side effects?
The side effects of Silhouette InstaLift treatment are typically mild and short-lived. Avoiding medications, supplements, and vitamins that thin the blood can minimize the risk and severity of bruising and swelling. An inflammatory reaction is to be expected after threads are inserted. Individuals with an allergy to PGA or PLLA may have a stronger response.
