Do Certain Foods cause Acne?

Acne flareups can impact your daily life, especially if they keep occurring. Are the foods you eat to blame for these flareups? Learn more about acne, including whether or not certain kinds of foods can lead to a flareup.

What Foods Cause Acne and Why?

Some foods can make acne symptoms worse or trigger flareups. When you have acne, this skin condition typically occurs due to clogged follicles, bacteria and other causes. Certain types of foods, such as foods that contain a lot of carbohydrates, might cause your acne to get worse.

What Foods Cause Acne Flareups?

Some kinds of foods can lead to a worsening of your acne symptoms or cause a flareup to occur. You might have more severe acne if you eat foods that are high in carbohydrates. For some people, chocolate and skim milk might also cause acne flareups to become worse.

What Should I Not Eat to Avoid Pimples?

If you’re prone to acne, you should watch the foods you eat. Limit foods that have a high amount of carbohydrates, such as foods with refined sugars or grains, since these could make your acne more severe.

What Foods Are Bad for Acne?

Foods that contain high amounts of carbohydrates are bad for acne. This includes baked goods, white bread, white potatoes, sugary drinks and potato chips. These foods can raise your blood sugar quickly, which could make acne worse.

What Foods Get Rid of Acne?

Dietary changes alone won’t eliminate acne, but certain foods might help ease flareups. Foods that do not raise your blood sugar quickly, such as fruits, vegetables, beans and whole grains, are good choices to include in your diet if you have acne.

Is Coffee Bad for Acne?

Coffee by itself does not affect whether or not you have acne or make your symptoms worse. However, adding milk and sugar to coffee could lead to worse flareups.

Does Water Help Acne?

Water won’t cure acne or make it go away, but it can help you maintain healthier skin overall. Drinking plenty of water helps you stay hydrated, which can benefit your skin in general. Using moisturizer on your skin can also help lower your risk of acne flareups.

Do Probiotics Help Acne?

Probiotics help increase good or beneficial bacteria in your gut. While this can help improve your digestion, it won’t necessarily affect your skin and help acne.

Are Oranges Good for Acne?

Oranges are fruits that do not tend to cause a fast increase in blood sugar. Including plenty of fruits, as well as vegetables and whole grains, in your diet while cutting back on foods high in carbohydrates can help ease acne.

How Can I Improve Acne?

You can improve acne by taking good care of your skin with gentle cleansing products. Using an over-the-counter or prescription medication might provide relief from acne symptoms, although these can take weeks to become effective. Avoiding or limiting white bread and other foods that are high in carbohydrates can also improve acne. If you have severe or frequent flareups, you should see a doctor to go over other treatment options.
